Abstract

This case study investigated the teaching of Basic Information Science (BIS) in the Otjozondjupa region in Namibia. The main objective of this study was to ascertain the extent to which school principals complied with teaching BIS in Namibian schools. Sixty (60) school principals from seventy five (75) were schools purposively sampled in this case study in which school principals were the primary target population. The data collection instruments used were questionnaires and focus group discussions targeting school principals from the Otjozondjupa region. Sixty (60) school principals responded to the questionnaire on the teaching of BIS at their schools. A major finding from this research study is that BIS is taught in schools in the Otjozondjupa region of Namibia as indicated by 75% of respondents. The research study recommends that school principals in the Otjozondjupa region of Namibia should fully support the development of learners as critical thinkers for lifelong learning challenges through teaching them BIS. The study recommends further case studies to be undertaken in the other thirteen (13) regions of Namibia to ascertain the level of compliance with teaching BIS in Namibian schools.
