Distribution of urease producing bacteria in the t I . r raDDlt caecum
Abstract
The distributiono f urease-producinbga cteriaw as examinedi n lumenal and mucosal-associatedp opulationso f the rabbit caecum.T he total numbero f bacteriar ecoveredo n a nonspecific, s emi-definedm edium were 1,7 x 10ep er g from lumen contents and 2,0 x 10sp er g of washed,h omogenizedc aecal wall. Urease activity was shown by 5,3% of strains isolated from lumen contents and 21,770m ucosal-associateds trains. A higher proportion of bacteria associated with the caecal wall (63%) were facultative compared with 20% from the caecalcontent.
