Bissau em tradução: Percalços e desafios de uma pesquisa em andamento Bissau in translation: Mishaps and challenges of an ongoing research

Abstract

 O presente artigo é um recorte de treze meses de uma pesquisa desenvolvida em Bissau, capital da Guiné-Bissau, localizada na África Ocidental, sobre zona de tradução (SIMON, 2013) e espaço de tradução (CRONIN; SIMON 2014) em contextos transnacionais. A partir da busca pela compreensão dos efeitos causados pelas práticas de tradução em contextos multilíngues, multiculturais, multiétnicos e multirreligiosos, este texto apresenta os espaços de tradução de Bissau sob a ótica da história da tradução cultural com viés decolonial. A abordagem teórica em relação à tradução cultural é desenvolvida nas perspectivas de Simon (2008) e Pym (2017), destacando o embasamento conceitual da tradução cultural de Bhabha (2014). No que concerne à metodologia, a pesquisa concilia diferentes procedimentos de geração e coleta de dados alinhados à história oral, tomando como recorte espaço-temporal o espaço de tradução e o lugar de memória da “Praça dos Heróis Nacionais”, situada região central da capital, no período compreendido de fevereiro de 2021 a março de 2022. Sobre a metodologia em história oral, dialoguei com as perspectivas de Meihy (2011), Freitas (2006), Meihy e Ribeiro (2011) e Seawrigt (2017) a fim de tecer recursos necessários para definir os tipos de entrevistas e as etapas das entrevistas a serem cumpridas. Com o trabalho de campo, apresento alguns recortes de entrevistas fornecidas pelos nossos colaboradores de pesquisa, objetivando descrever o quão o conceito de tradução cultural só faz sentido quando as diferenças culturais e os múltiplos processos de negociações são discutidos. Concluindo, apresento os principais percalços e desafios encontrados durante a implementação da pesquisa em Bissau, capital transcultural do Ocidente da África.

English Abstract The present article is a thirteen-month extract of a research developed in Bissau, capital of Guinea-Bissau, located in West Africa, about translation zone (SIMON, 2013) and translation space (CRONIN; SIMON 2014) in transnational contexts. Based on the search for understanding the effects caused by translation practices in multilingual, multicultural, multiethnic and multireligious contexts, this text presents the translation spaces of Bissau from the perspective of the history of cultural translation with a decolonial bias. The theoretical approach to cultural translation is developed from the perspectives of Simon (2008) and Pym (2017), highlighting the conceptual basis of cultural translation by Bhabha (2014). Regarding the methodology, the research conciliates different procedures of data generation and collection aligned with oral history, taking as a space-time cutout the space of translation and the place of memory of the "National Heroes' Square", located in the central region of the capital, in the period from February 2021 to March 2022. About the methodology in oral history, I dialogued with the perspectives of Meihy (2011), Freitas (2006), Meihy and Ribeiro (2011) and Seawrigt (2017) in order to weave resources necessary to define the types of interviews and the stages of the interviews to be fulfilled. With the fieldwork, I present some interview clippings provided by our research collaborators, aiming to describe how the concept of cultural translation only makes sense when cultural differences and multiple processes of negotiations are discussed. In conclusion, I present the main mishaps and challenges encountered during the implementation of the research in Bissau, the cross-cultural capital of West Africa.
