Examination of aerodynamic parameters of fluid controlled mechanical thrust-vectoring nozzle

Abstract

The aerodynamic parameters of fluid controlled mechanical thrust vectoring nozzle have been computed to establish the relationships for improving the nozzle design. While a nozzle with exit Mach number (M) of 3 was used as case study, other values of exit M were also considered for comparison. The maximum deflector angle was calculated to be 31 º, but the operating angles were lower, as stalling commenced at angles less than 20 º up to M = 3.5. The resultant thrust coefficient, CTR and maximum angular thrust coefficient, (CTθ)max varied with the thrust deflection angles. The resultant thrust, pressure, lift coefficient and point of action of the deflect-or were also found to vary with angle of thrust deflection and Mach numbers.
