Abstract
The difficulties of nationwide coordinating Science and Technology (S&T) programmes to ensure synergy for research and development have been discussed. To make S&T play central role in the socio-economic planning, an Advisor on Science is proposed to bring the influence of the Presidency to bear on scientific issues. While advocating for Nationwide Sectoral Research Coordination Committees, a National Commission on S&T as apex body must be established to prioritize and manage research programmes and funding. All the relevant stakeholders contribute to integrate science and technology in the national development programmes.
