Social Studies Education as Panacea for Security Challenges in Nigeria

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to emphasis the need and importance of social studies education which serves as a panacea to security. The present Nigerian situation posed serious threats and challenges to both government and well-meaning citizens. These socio-economic problems call for different strategies and actions for them to be ameliorated. Social studies education has been embraced by almost all the developed and developing countries to support economic growth and development. Here, we review the current security situation, especially existing social studies policies and highlight the need for social studies as a tool for addressing insecurity. The uniqueness of the paper is presenting social studies education as an explanation of what and how it should be rather than what it is.
