Abstract

Politics and education are inseparable. Politics governs the activities of education, but the principles of politics are learnt in the school  system. For the polity to become well administered, the education sector must be effectively operational. And for education to become  operational, there will be the will-power on the part of the government. It therefore means, that as much as government is needed for  the functionality of Nigerian school system, education is equally needed for investing in the political actors the integrity that is required  for the smooth running of the state. In the light of the above, this paper examines the functionality of politics of education in Nigeria. For  a proper analysis, such concepts as Politics, Education, Education and Politics etc., were extensively reviewed. Politics of education in  Nigeria was noticed to have been in the interest of the ethnic and religious groups and not for Nigeria as a nation. As a result, Nigerian  political actors have been advised to shift their focus from sectional to a more centralized politics, especially when it affects education for  the interest of society.
