Management of innovations and research in technical vocational education and training for the achievement of sustainable development goal one (Poverty reduction) in Rivers State, Nigeria
Abstract
In spite of Nigeria being part of the countries that are involved in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the aim of reducing poverty, yet there is increase in level of poverty yearly. It has been observed that poverty and unemployment have become a challenge that attract public and government attention which can be handled through proper structured of innovations in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). This paper therefore focused on management of innovations and research in Technical Vocational Education and Training for the achievement of sustainable development goal one (poverty reduction) in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study was anchored on Marxian and Cultural Theory of poverty propounded by Karl Marx and Oscar Lewis. The study further conceptualize management (Planning, Directing and Organizing), concept of innovations and research and sustainable development goals. Other concepts that were examined in the study include poverty reduction and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The paper recommends among others that rretrench workers from the industries should be retrained in technical and entrepreneurial skills, research and development centre should made available in all private and public sectors to bring new methods and innovations to create a new skill among workers, compulsory training course on technical and entrepreneurial skill-based should be organized for both retirees from private and public sectors while new synergic ties between vocational skill training institutions and industries serving as innovating workplaces to understand what tacit skills as well as the more standardized skills used that are required by the trainees.
