Abstract

This study examined Management of Innovative Education in Universities for Sustainable Development Goals in Rivers State. Two  research questions and two corresponding null hypotheses guided the study. The theoretical position was anchored on the “Goal  Theory” Propounded by Edwin Locke (1986), as cited in Kpee (2015). This study adopted a descriptive survey design with a population of  three Universities in Rivers State (1 Federal and Two State Universities). A proportionate stratified random sampling technique was used  to draw a sample size of 400 respondents representing 6% of the population. A self-designed questionnaire titled: “Management of  Innovative Education in Universities for Sustainable Development Goals in Rivers State Questionnaire (MIEUSDGQ)” was used for data  collection. Test-retest technique was used to determine the reliability of the instrument which yield a coefficient index of 0.74 using  Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r). Mean, standard deviation and rank order were used in answering the research  questions while z-test statistics was used in testing the hypotheses. The findings revealed that Strategic Fund Raising Programmes,  University Industry Collaboration, Commercial Ventures and InService Training Programmes, etc. are management strategies for  innovative education in universities. Based on the findings as well as the conclusion, the study recommended that there should be  regular training of staff through workshops and seminar on the use of innovative facilities to improve their productivity in order to  achieve Sustainable Development Goals in Universities in Rivers State.
