In the teaching of Economics, there are several plausible methods to bring about efficient impartation of the expected knowledge to students. Therefore, Economics teachers must continually engage themselves in research to get acquainted with better teaching methods that would make for meaningful teaching and learning of the subject. This paper discusses the meaning, extent and effects of creating learning groups by the teacher, as a rewarding and innovative strategy for effective teaching, in order to improve performance in the subject. The paper concludes by pointing out that teaching Economics in overcrowded classes does not guarantee any meaningful learning of the subject.
