Abstract

This study investigated teachers’ 21st century lifelong education skills acquisition for sustainable entrepreneurship goal attainment in  secondary schools in Rivers State. Three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted an analytic  descriptive research design with a population of 7314 (2993 female and 4321 male) teachers in 274 senior public secondary schools in  Rivers State. A sample size of 731 (299 female teachers and 432 male) teachers was drawn through proportionate stratified random  sampling technique representing 10% of the population. An instrument titled Lifelong Entrepreneurship Learning Skills for Sustainable  Goal Attainment Scale (LELSSGAS) was used for data collection. Face and content validities were ensured by experts in the relevant areas.  The internal consistency reliability coefficient of 0.78 was determined for LELSSGAS through Cronbach alpha. Mean and standard  deviation scores were used to answer the research questions while z-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The  result revealed that the required 21st century lifelong education skills are digital literacy skill, communication skill, collaboration skill,  critical thinking skill, problem solving skill, decision making skill and creativity skill respectively. The challenges are lack of fund, poor  attitude, lack of facilities, poor power supply, lack of enriched capacity development programme and lack of parental support. It  was recommended that the acquisition of lifelong teaching skills should be integrated as one of the qualities of teachers’ promotion. The  school authority should make use of internally generated revenue to procure facilities for lifelong learning for sustainable  entrepreneurship goal attainment. The government at different levels as well as the parents should sponsor the teachers in development  programmes mostly in the area of lifelong learning.
