Managing innovative education for attainment of sustainable development goals in Public Senior Secondary Schools in Rivers State

Abstract

This paper analytically examined managing innovative education in secondary level for attainment of sustainable development goals in  Rivers State. It analyzed areas of innovation in secondary education. Two research questions guided the study. Descriptive survey design  was adopted. The population comprised all the 263 public senior secondary schools in Rivers State with 789 principals as the total  respondents, using stratified random sampling technique 120 respondents was drawn. The researchers administered 120 copies of  questionnaire, out of which 110 was retrieved. Data ‘collected was analyzed using mean score and standard deviation to the research questions. Reliability was ensured using test-retest method and computed with Pearson Product Moment Correlation with an index of  0.81. The paper was validated by three experts from the Department of Educational Management and Measurements and Evaluation and  questionnaire titled: “Managing Innovative Education in Secondary Level for Attainment of Sustainable Development Goal Questionnaire (MIESLASDGQ)”, was used in the study. Findings from the study showed that innovative education agreeably is for improvement’ of  education system for societal sustainable development but the actors should evaluate if they are meeting up with the stated goals.  Therefore, the study recommended that government should make quick adjustments if the target seems ambiguous to avoid wastage  effort in the globalization practice.
