Mutual communication and teamwork as collaborative writing correlates of quality educational research output among lecturers in South- South Nigerian federal universities

Abstract

The study investigated mutual communication and teamwork in collaborative writing and quality educational research output among lecturers in federal universities in South - South Nigeria. Two research questions and two null hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted a correlational research design with a sample size of four hundred and twenty-one (421) lecturers drawn from the federal universities in three (3) South –South states. The stratified random sample techniques was used to draw the sample. The research instruments for data collection were two sets of questionnaire tagged “Mutual Communication and Teamwork in Collaboration Writing Scale (MCTWCWS)” and “Quality Educational Research Output Scale (QEROS)” the research instruments were subjected to face and content validation by two experts from Department of Educational Management. The Cronbach Alpha statistics was adopted to determine reliability of the instruments the reliability coefficient of “Mutual Communication and Teamwork in Collaborative Writing Questionnaire (MCTWCWS) was established at 0.68 and Quality Educational Research Output Questionnaire (QEROS) at 0.65. Research questions were answered using regression analysis while hypotheses were tested using the t-test associated with linear regression. The finding revealed among others that lecturers mutual communication accounted for 25.1% of quality educational research output among lecturers in federal universities in south- south Nigeria. This showed a significant relationship between lecturers mutual communication and teamwork in collaborative writing and quality educational research output. Study recommended among other that times should try and build a forward able team so that group goals can be active.
