Management of entrepreneurship education programme in Nigerian Universities: A catalyst for sustainable national development
Abstract
This study on Management of Entrepreneurship Education Programme in Nigerian Universities: A catalyst for Sustainable National Development stemmed from the researchers concern on high rate of crime, poverty and unemployment especially among Nigeria university graduates and its adverse effect towards national development. The study was guided by five research questions. Rating scale of 51 items with 4 point response options for data collection was used for the study. Survey research design was employed using a population of 19,127 academic staff and 62495 (400) level students in the 10 universities in the 5 States of south east zone of Nigeria (5 Federal and 5 State universities). A sample size of 525 respondents comprising 105 academic staff and 420 students (400 level) was drawn from the 3 Federal and 3 State universities making it a total of 6 universities using clustered random sampling techniques. Data were presented in frequency tables, and analyzed with mean scores for the research questions. Findings revealed that university management does not execute their responsibilities appropriately to ensure that entrepreneurship education programme thrives in the university; entrepreneurship education method of instruction is poor, facilities for entrepreneurship education are not available, students were not exposed to entrepreneurship skills and also university management does not stimulate students towards entrepreneurship education, Based on the findings, it is recommended that The university management should liaise with the government for the procurement of the needed facilities to ensure the success of the programme.
