Abstract

Entrenched in the principle of human capital development for nation building, Information and Communication Technology ICT is seen as the conduit through which the desire for nation building can be achieved. This was made prominent as a critical review on the concept of Information and Communication Technology ICT was carried in order to unveil its critical elements as it relates to its meaning as presented by renowned scholars, the emergence of ICT and its exploits. The features of ICT, the equipment as well as their operational mechanisms were put in focus. As a trending concept, the paper also analyzed the method of implementation of ICT using the continuum approach and the stages of using ICT approach. The implementation of ICT also include the emerging stage, application stage, infusing stage and the transformation stages. The significance of ICT leads to easy programming, processing, retrieval, adding, editing and deleting of records or information when necessary. ICT helps teachers and administrators in manually processing data. ICT enhances effective communication among students, teachers, administrators, business class, etc.
