Educational policies in Rivers State and implementation for growth and development: An assessment for 2007-2015

Abstract

There is no doubt that education plays a pivotal role in the development of any state. Consequent upon this, governments have initiated various policies on education to bring about the needed growth and development in the society. Successive governments in Rivers State introduced educational policies to boost manpower needs of the State. This paper assessed the educational policy of the Rivers State Government from 2007-2015, under the administration of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, with a view to ascertain the level of implementation. It highlighted the various policies implemented by the State Ministry of Education in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors of the education system. Secondary data were collated from the Rivers State Ministry of Education for analysis. It showed that the government embarked on a robust implementation of its educational policy in an attempt to enhance the quality of education. The paper increased funding in the education sector, given nits overall importance in the development of the society, amongst others.
