Vibration of a horizontal shaft containing a transverse crack
Abstract
In this paper, the influence of transverse crack of a simple rotor system on the non-resonant and resonant response are discussed. The existence of cracks on the rotor changes the stiffness and damping properties, as a result the characteristic feature of vibration. For theoretical investigation, the stiffness of the cracked shaft is modeled approximately with a harmonically varying junction to simulate the opening and closing of the crack with the rotation. On the basis of this idealized model, the influence of a crack and its depth both on the stationary and non-stationary vibration behavior is investigated and numerical results presented.
