Research on rural water pumping technology

Abstract

This paper describes a project in mral pumping and desalination technology currently going on under the auspices of the Ethiopian Water Works Construction Authority (EWWCA). The project is generally concerned with research and development of hand, wind and engine powered water lifting devices. Research and development on solar thermal desaination has also been recently incorporated with close cooperation and participation of the Faculty of Technology, Addis Ababa University. The development work empha;izes the use of indigenous materials. The research work is carried out at the Mechanical Engineering Workshops of
the Faculty of Technology.
