Vesico Amniotic Shunt, A Remedy For Severe Foetal Obstructive Uropathy
Abstract
Fetal obstructive uropathies complicated by severe oligohydramnios can cause neonatal death due to renal dysplasia and 1 pulmonary hypoplasia. The possibility of salvaging functional renal tissue and of preserving the potential for further renal growth depends upon early diagnosis and management. It is therefore very important to look out for congenital fetal obstructive uropathy and relieve such in the antenatal period. Vesico amniotic shunt is an ultrasound-guided procedure that offers such relieve and if done early gives a 2 chance for survival. To further illustrate this, a case of fetal urinary tract obstruction, diagnosed in utero in a Nigerian child, and managed with ultrasound guided procedure during the antenatal period is presented.
