Abstract

There is a relative lack of information in the veterinary literature regarding the epidemiology, pathology and immunophenotypic classification of canine lymphomas in Nigeria. The carcass of a two year old male Alsatian dog with a history of dullness and anorexia of a few days duration was submitted for postmortem examination at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, University of Ibadan. Grossly, there were multiple, variably sized , greyish white, firm nodules in the liver and pancreas. There was also pulmonary oedema, splenomegaly and gastric ulceration. Histologically, the hepatic and pancreatic nodules showed numerous aggregates of neoplastic lymphoid cells often arranged in follicles (lymphoma). The neoplastic lymphoid cells showed strong immunoreactivity to CD 33 antibodies. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a CD 33 positive lymphoma in a male Alsatian dog in our environment
