Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Contraception among Students in Tertiary Institutions in Anambra State Southeast Nigeria
Abstract
Objective: Aim of this study was to determine the awareness and practice of contraception among undergraduate students in Anambra State
Southeast Nigeria.
Method: It is a multicenter cross sectional study involving a total of 600 students in 4 tertiary institutions.
Results: The awareness of contraception was 92.5% while the practice rate was 8.5%. The mass media was the major source of information
about contraception. None of the respondents cited family planning clinic as either their source of information or contraceptive drug.
Conclusion: Unplanned and unwanted pregnancy is still an important factor that could militate against the achievement of millennium
development goal and contraception has been shown to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
