Submission Requirements

  • Articles submitted to TJHS must be original, not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and not previously published, except as a conference abstract.
  • Submissions may include original research papers, short communications, case reports, solicited review articles, commentary, correspondence, and book reviews.
  • Authors must strictly follow editorial instructions to ensure timely publication.

Manuscript Preparation

Submit a single Microsoft Word document, ensuring the word count does not exceed 4,300 words for case reports and primary studies or 5,300 words for review articles. The manuscript should be structured as follows: 

  Title Page

  Abstract

  Manuscript Body

  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods (as applicable)
  • Results (as applicable)
  • Discussion
  • Acknowledgements
  • References (Maximum of 30 for case reports and primary studies, and 50 for review articles)
  • Tables and Figures/Charts (Maximum of 5 in total)
  1. Title Page
    • Manuscript title: Use title case (first letter of each major word in the title capitalised) with a maximum of 23 words.
  • List of authors: Initials followed by surname, with superscript numbers indicating affiliations. Example:
    e.g., 1A.Z. Donald, 2Z.R. 3Kolawole, O.B. Ojo
  • Affiliations: Numbered according to superscript before each author's initial
  • Corresponding author details:
    • Full name
    • Complete postal address
    • Email address
    • Phone number (with country code)
    • ORCID number (if available)
    • Asterisk (*) for corresponding author
  • Short running title: 10 words max

  • Language: Manuscripts must be in clear and concise English.
  • Formatting:
    • 12-point font (Times New Roman or Arial)
    • A4-size paper size, double-spaced text, and ample margins.
    • Page numbers must be consecutive.
    • Sections in order:

      • Introduction
      • Materials and Methods (as applicable)
      • Results (as applicable)
      • Discussion
      • Acknowledgements
      • Conflict of Interest/Declaration
      • Sources of fund (Optional)

  • Numerical and Measurement Standards:
    • Use Internationally accepted nomenclature (Système International, S.I. units).
    • 24-hour format for time, e.g., 0900H.
    • Sentences should not start with Arabic numerals.
  1. References and Citations
  • Citation Style: Vancouver referencing style
  • In-text citations: Use superscript numbers after punctuation marks (no parentheses or brackets).
  • Reference List Format:
    • References should be in plain text (free from reference manager field codes).
    • List references in numerical order (according to first appearance in text).

Ethical Clearance

  • Research involving human subjects, patients, and animals must have institutional ethical approval.
  • Authors must provide evidence of ethical approval upon request.

Policy on Plagiarism

  • Plagiarism and fraudulent behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • If plagiarism is detected, the editors will issue a rejoinder in the later edition.

Policy on Retraction and Errata

  • Retractions will be issued for misconduct or errors.
  • Errata will be published for significant errors affecting data interpretation.
