About the Journal
Tropical Freshwater Biology (ISSN: Print 0795-0101), is peer-reviewed international journal. The Journal is the Official Publication of Freshwater Biological Association of Nigeria (FBAN). It promotes the publication of scientific contributions in the field of freshwater biology in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. One issue is published annually but this number may be increased. Original research papers and short communications on any aspect of tropical freshwater biology are acceptable. Review articles relevant to the tropics and books for review are welcome. Articles solely concerned with the physical and chemical environment and theoretical issues will be considered occasionally.
Peer Review
Tropical Freshwater Biology (TFB) has a peer review policy structured on international best practices. When an author submits an original article, the Editor, an Editorial Board member, or the Editorial Assistant will first decide whether the article meets the formal criteria indicated in the Authors’ Guidelines and whether it fits within the journal's aims and scope.
Submitted articles are handled by an Editorial board member who has no potential conflict of interest with any of the manuscript’s authors. All Manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer-review process, where the authors and reviewers do not know each other’s identity to ensure the highest quality of the journal. The article-handling editor will select the potential reviewers for each article and must
(i) not have co-authored publications with the author and
(ii) not be affiliated with the same institution as the author(s).
All articles are sent out for peer review, and at least two reviewer comments per manuscript will be collected. Reviewers are given a specific time frame, usually not more than 3 weeks to complete their review and complete and submit their report.
Peer reviewers can make one of the following recommendations for the editors to consider:
- Accept – the manuscript satisfies all publication parameters and is worthy of publication
- Minor/Major Revisions – further revision of the manuscript is required to satisfy all parameters (a deadline for submission of the revised version is set)
- Reject and Resubmission Suggested – the paper fails to satisfy key parameters and substantial revision of the manuscript is required to address its shortcomings (no deadlines are set)
- Reject—The paper fails to satisfy key parameters, and it is highly unlikely that further work can address its shortcomings.
Confirmation of the Decision and Communication with the Authors All decisions are confirmed by the Editorial Board before notification. The Editorial Office sends a decision email to the corresponding author including any relevant reviewer comments. All comments and related files will be provided in an anonymized form.
When all reviewers have submitted their reports, the Editor can make one of the following editorial recommendations:
- Accept
- Revision
- Reject/Resubmission
- Reject
Revision To facilitate rapid publication, authors are given a maximum of two weeks for minor/major revisions, with possible extensions of up to 4 weeks. A number of revisions depends upon the need for a number of changes/edits needed in the article as per the instructions from the editor/reviewers to ensure the quality of the article before getting them published.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors used the work and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism takes many forms, from passing off another's paper as the author's paper, copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another's paper (without attribution), to claiming results from research conducted by others. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. A maximum of 15% similarity from Turnitin Test is acceptable before publication.
Publication
If the manuscript is accepted, the author will be sent a galley proof to make any final corrections. All accepted peer-reviewed manuscripts will be published online by AJOL (https:/www.ajol.info/index.php/tfb), and are citable by the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) assigned by AJOL at the time of online publication. Hard bound copies of published issues are made available to authors and subscribers.
Publication Scheduling This journal publishes a maximum of 2 issues in one volume per year. This number may increase when more standard manuscripts are received.
Abstracting/Indexing/Databases
Papers published are abstracted and indexed by scientific indexing services - Google Scholar, Uhlrich Intern. Dir.; EBSCO Host, Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA), AJOL, ASFD, ProQuest, Web of Science (WoS) Database
