A Review on Mutiphase Flows and Applications
Abstract
Multiphase flow is of important to a variety of processes in natural and engineered porous media with complex heterogeneous features; including interactions among matters such as water, air, and oil. In fluid mechanics/dynamics, multiphase flow is simultaneous flow of materials with different states or phases (i.e. gas, liquid or solid), or materials with different chemical properties but in the same state or phase (i.e. liquid-liquid systems). A persistent theme throughout the study of multiphase flows is the need to model and predict the detailed behavior of those flows and the phenomena that they manifest. The latest developments combine a powerhouse of theoretical, ana- lytical, and numerical methods to create stronger verification and validation modeling methods. There are three ways in which such models are explored:
• experimentally, through equipped laboratory-sized models,
• theoretically, using mathematical equations,
• computationally or numerically, exploiting the power ofcomputers to study the complexity of the flow.
