The SPiL Plus series has two main aims. Firstly, it serves as a vehicle for the distribution of new and relatively inaccessible information in the field of modern linguistics. Secondly, it aims to stimulate critical discussion in Southern African linguistics.

SPiL Plus is an annual/biannual open access, peer-reviewed international journal, published by the Department of General Linguistics, Stellenbosch University. The papers published in SPiL Plus are primarily intended for scholars with an interest in linguistics and related disciplines in Southern Africa. SPiL Plus provides a platform for scholars to share knowledge in the form of high quality empirical and theoretical research papers, case studies, literature reviews and book reviews.

Other website associated with this journal: http://spilplus.journals.ac.za/pub/index
https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264093Ex Africa semper aliquid novi: Linguistic shorts in honour of Andries Coetzee – part I2024-02-02T13:47:00+00:00Ian Bekkerkatevg@sun.ac.za
No Abstract
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264094The need for a large(r) Afrikaans treebank2024-02-02T13:53:05+00:00Peter Dirixpeter.dirix@kuleuven.be
No Abstract
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264096Watter tipe taal is Afrikaans?2024-02-02T13:59:23+00:00Ernst Kotzeernst.somerstrand@gmail.com
No Abstract
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264130Vernacular Afrikaans: descriptions and attitudes2024-02-05T06:08:43+00:00Ansie Maritzansie.maritz@up.ac.za
No Abstract.
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264131/e/ en /o/, of /iə/ en /uə/?2024-02-05T06:11:55+00:00Daan Wissingdaan.wissing@nwu.ac.za
No Abstract
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264132“Rêrag pragtag”: A sociophonetic exploration of the vowel quality of the -ig suffix in Kaaps2024-02-05T06:15:48+00:00Yolandi Ribbens-Kleinyolandi.ribbens-klein@uct.ac.za
No Abstract
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264133ʼn Metodologie vir die beskrywing van konstruksionaliseringsnetwerke: Konstruksies met [in] as gevallestudie2024-02-05T06:23:22+00:00Gerhard B. van Huyssteengerhard.vanhuyssteen@nwu.ac.zaAdri Breedgerhard.vanhuyssteen@nwu.ac.zaAnneke Butlergerhard.vanhuyssteen@nwu.ac.zaLande Bothagerhard.vanhuyssteen@nwu.ac.zaMaristi Partridgegerhard.vanhuyssteen@nwu.ac.zaSulene Pilon gerhard.vanhuyssteen@nwu.ac.za
No Abstract
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264134Why should voiceless aspirates cause depression in Nguni?2024-02-05T06:33:46+00:00Nancy C. Naudenaudej@ufs.ac.zaCynthia L. Miller-Naudenaudej@ufs.ac.za
Acrostic poems in Biblical Hebrew are structured both by the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet at the beginning of successive strophes as well as by the ordinary features of poetic style. In this essay we consider how these two aspects of poetic style interact with the poet’s syntactic choices in the first poem of the Book of Lamentations (1:1-11) in order to determine to what extent the poetic constraints have hampered or warped the syntactic structures employed in the poetic lines or half-lines.
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://www.ajol.info/index.php/splp/article/view/264144Linguistic dualities: Deconstructible or defensible?2024-02-05T07:11:05+00:00Bertus van Rooya.j.vanrooy@uva.nl
No Abstract
2024-02-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024
