The mythic and philosophical background to the early plays of Wole Soyinka (I)

Abstract

Wole Soyinka's writings, especially on drama could be somewhat obscure and incomprehensible to a whole lot of people, especially the lay men. But a painstaking and critical look at such works could show that they are true reflections on happenings in our political and cultural life. In this paper, we would attempt to uncover the underlying philosophy attitude of Soyinka's plays and from this we hope to demystify them and make them adaptable to popular dramatic mode.
