Gassetan cultural configuration and the city of Calabar
Abstract
Calabar is captured as an uncommon African city because of its background as a former slave port city, British colonial capital of southern protectorate, capital of south eastern state, capital of Cross river state and today a heart of global tourism in Nigeria. However, Calabar must not be deceived into thinking that her current achievements are her only possibilities. She is still capable of even greater records especially in the areas of human capital development and opportunity of better future for her people only if she will bother to overcome the common African cultural shortcomings of colonial interventions in Africa. Gassetan cultural configurations are demonstrated as a means to Calabar overcoming the colonial African cultural shortcomings in a bid to reveal a better Calabar beyond her current achievements.
