The naval campaign in the war of the Pacific 1879-1884

Abstract

South Africa and Chile have always had close military and diplomatic ties but
comparatively little is known in South Africa about Chilean military history. Chile's naval history in particular is most interesting and as obviously in the 18th century the only practical means of travel to and around South America was by sea, her navy has played a very important historical role. This article is an attempt to highlight one particular period of Chilean naval history.
