Low anorectal malformation associated with lumbo-costovertebral anomalies: A case report
Abstract
Low anorectal malformation often present in isolation without associated congenital malformations in other organ-systems. However, some have presented as described in the Currarino triad of Low anorectal malformation, which often is an anal stenosis, anterior sacral defect and a pelvic mass from an anterior meningocele. Associated costal vertebral defects are very rare; less than 200 cases have been reported in the literature with varied description and overlaps. Hence, the incidence is unknown and the exact aetiology is still a subject for discussion. Embryologically, they are related by mesenchymal origin and the somites derivatives. The case of a 28-hour-old boy, the first case to present with low anorectal malformation in the presence of sacral dysgenesis, mid-gut volvulus, microgastrium and Meckel's diverticulum who in addition had a right lumbothoracic hernia, multiple right costal-vertebral defects, sacral dysgenesis, right renal agenesis, undescended immature right testicle, and intestinal malrotation is reported and the relevant literature reviewed.
