An Appraisal of Library Services Provision to Prison Inmates in Nigeria
Abstract
Prisons like other correctional institutions deserve organized information provision centers like a library. This study examined library services provision in the south-western part of Nigeria. It was found out that despite their incarceration, inmates desires variety of information; whereas the library stock is grossly inadequate and managed by non-librarians. The study recommends among others readership promotion campaign, organized
library visit by library associations to the prisons; as well as the provision of outreach services to the inmates by nearby public libraries.
