Dematosis Papulosa Nigra

Abstract

Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) is a benign and unique skin condition seen
primarily in persons of dark colour. It is a pigmented papular eruption of the face and neck caused by a naevoid developmental defect of the pilosebaceous follicles. Lesions of DPN display hyperkeratosis, irregular acanthosis, keratinfilled invaginations of the epidermis, and marked hyperpigmentation of the basal layer. The condition is characterized by multiple, hyperpigmented, smoothsurfaced, round or filiform papules that measure 1-5 mm in diameter; appearing usually on the face, but sometimes on the neck or upper trunk. A liturature review is presented herein this paper.
