Psychotherapy in general practice
Abstract
A psychiatrist can accomplish psychotherapy with reconstructive goals successfully within 3 to 5 years. A general practitioner should be able to observe and modify a very small segment of a disturbed personality during consultations lasting 8 to 10 minutes. An attempt is made to describe how this can be achieved by complete identification with the patient and his problem: the discovery of a basic defect in his personality; attempting to bring this to his understanding and by teaching him to improve his behaviour.
