Palmar dermatoglyphs of South African indians

H.J. Grace

Abstract

Topological analysis of the palmar dermatoglyphs of 150 male and 200 female Indians is presented and compared with similar data from South African Blacks and Coloureds of the Durban area. A vary high prevalence of loops in area III of both hands is an Indian characteristic; a high frequency of ulnar loops in the hypothenar area, and a low pattern intensity in area IV are caucasoid features which the Indians share with Europeans.
