Klemverskuiwings in die Psigoterapeutiese Verhouding
Abstract
Man and his culture change continuously. Every change brings about new needs and new problems. For this reason the demands made upon the psychotherapist also show continuous change. For contemporary man the source of direction for the individual is sought in his relationship with his fellow man. This brings about a tremendous risk. In psychotherapy this conflict must be resolved, which places the emphasis of contemporary psychotherapy on the relationship between psychotherapist and patient. In the light of the recent change in culture away from the solipsistic view on man, it is suggested that the term 'interpersonal relationship' should be replaced by 'co-human atmosphere', an atmosphere which, in the psychotherapeutic relationship, offers security, but is emotionally charged, gives support, but also freedom to create is artificial, but intensely human.
