Bloeddruk tydens en ná ergometriese arbeid in jong en middeljarige mans

G.W. Van Der Merwe

Abstract

Seventeen middle-aged men (Group III) with sedentary habits were studied with  regard to blood pressure during and after the execution of a submaximal workload.  The results  were compared with the results obtained from a group of trained young men (Group I)  and a group of trained middle-aged men (Group 11). The systolic blood pressure showed a considerable increase during work, much more than the increase in diastolic pressure. Both the systolic and diastolic pressures of Group III rose higher than that of the trained groups. The systolic pressure of Group I showed the fastest drop during the first minute of rest. Groups 11 and III reached pre-exercise systolic values  respectively after 5 and 7 minutes. Ten minutes after the test the systolic and diastolic values of all test groups had dropped to below normal resting values. Differences in blood pressure between the 3 groups are given at the 5% level of significance.
