The diagnosis and treatment of acute meningitis, excluding tuberculosis, in infancy and childhood
Abstract
retrospective study is made of 376 case records of acute non-tuberculous meningitis in infants and children admitted during 1967 to The Emergency Ward at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, Cape Town,' with regard to aetiology, incidence, diagnosis, and results with standard triple therapy. Specific diagnostic problems, with The emphasis on early diagnosis, and general therapeutic measures, are discussed. In addition, the use of ampicillin in the treatment of acute bacterial meningitis is reviewed.
