Abstract

Althesin (CT 1341), a new intravenous steroid anaesthetic agent without steroid activity, was given as induction agent to a total of 104 patients and the side-effects noted. Two dosage ranges were used and the side-effects compared. The drug was found to be a safe induction agent, but side-effects were often troublesome. It can be used as a substitute for thiopentone sodium, especially in patients who are going home the same day.
