Pandemic infl uenza A (H1N1) 2009: a case series from intensive care units in Port Shepstone, South Africa
Abstract
This article presents a series of seven ventilator-dependent patients with pandemic in. uenza A (H1N1) 2009 and one with seasonal in. uenza at two hospitals – a government regional hospital and a private hospital – in the Ugu District, KwaZulu-Natal. The clinical features of these patients are described, and an attempt is made to highlight the problems encountered in managing such patients in a regional South African setting.
