The importance of adopting standards in the field of libraries and information: The digital library model

Abstract

This research study deals with the importance of work according to the available criteria in the field of libraries and information. The existence of information in an attractive way has lead one to always focus on the ability of rationally controlling and retrieving this great amount of information, with the possibility of sharing and exchanging knowledge and information, at the highest efficiency level, in an electronic and digital environment on the basis of common exchange standards. After the standardization was based on the libraries buildings and equipment’s, the kind of classification in use, cataloguing techniques,…etc. it has now been outdone by other technical standards, the existence of which is linked to computer, such as metadata, marc, ISO2709,…etc. Thanks to these standards, the administrators within libraries and information centres have freed themselves from the dependence of any trader or producer. This would enable them to meet some of the targets within local and international information organizations.
