https://www.ajol.info/index.php/pmsj/article/view/287564

This study investigates the relationship between competitive strategy, green purchasing practices, and firm performance among firms in the Tema Metropolis. Adopting the Resource-Based Theory as its theoretical foundation, positivist research methodology, and explanatory research design, 161 respondents were surveyed. The associations between the variables were determined using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method with Smart Partial Least Square (PLS) software version 3.0 as well as the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study analysis revealed that findings reveal a positive association between competitive strategy and green purchasing adoption, but a negative relationship between green purchasing practices and firm performance. However, technological innovation can mitigate this negative effect, suggesting that firms can balance their green initiatives with performance goals by investing in innovation. The study's recommendations include adopting competitive strategies to encourage green purchasing, considering the potential negative impact on competitive advantage and performance, leveraging technology, and providing policy support for sustainable practices and economic growth. This research contributes to the literature on green practices and firm performance, providing practical implications for firms and policymakers.
David ACKAHOfori IssahDadzie Boafo Eric

https://www.ajol.info/index.php/pmsj/article/view/287566

Strategic procurement, a vital component for organizational competitiveness, has been a subject of continuous exploration, yet it presents mixed findings in research literature. The ambiguity mainly revolves around the moderating role of corporate governance in the relationship between strategic procurement and competitive advantage. This study is dedicated to unraveling this relationship, applying the resource-based view as its theoretical underpinning. Utilizing a quantitative approach and conducting a survey on a sample of 136 employees from manufacturing firms in Ghana, the research offers substantial insights. The findings reveal that strategic procurement has a definite positive impact on competitive advantage, reinforcing the importance of deliberate procurement strategies in business performance. Furthermore, corporate governance, a vital aspect of organizational structure, not only enhances competitive advantage directly but also acts as a strengthening force on the effect of strategic procurement on competitive advantage. It highlights the synergistic relationship between governance practices and procurement strategies. These results emphasize the recommendation for organizations to embrace and implement strategic procurement practices aligned with strong and transparent governance policies. The intertwining of these two aspects may foster organizational success and sustainability. The importance of this study is accentuated by its contribution to filling existing gaps in the procurement literature, particularly regarding the moderating role of governance. By addressing this significant aspect, the research adds valuable insights that may guide both academic discourse and practical applications in the industrial sector, enhancing the understanding of strategic procurement in modern organizational dynamics.
David AckahOfori IssahDadzie Boafo Eric

https://www.ajol.info/index.php/pmsj/article/view/287568

The purpose of procurement management in governmental organizations is to ensure that all goods and services purchased by public institutions are done in a harmonized procedure and in a way that ensures a careful, economic and efficient use of public resources. It is also to ensure that transactions are devoid of corruption, but are done in fairly, plainly and in a transparent manner and by encouraging competition among local players. However, in a lot of government organizations, the public procurement process is sheltered with concealment, incompetence and bribery (Nyakundi, et al., 2012). Studies have shown that there are procurement operational lapses that are leading to poor service delivery and consumer dissatisfaction which have become a global challenge, (OECS), April 2013. Procurement management in many organizations rarely seems satisfactory to the community and donors. Several studies have been conducted in the field of donor funding but focused on different aspects other than procurement management and performance of governmental organizations in project implementation. Asfaw (2009) studied the relationship that exists between organizations' performance. Kebede (2012) studied factors affecting the implementation of donor funded projects. On the other hand, Girma (2000) researched on the effect of aid on economic growth of recipient countries. Studies on procurement management on project remains scanty hence this study seeks to access procurement management on project at CBE. The researcher wishes to investigate how procurement management is executed at CBE. In Ethiopia, previous studies have not concentrated on the assessment of procurement management on project performance at CBE. This thesis uses CBE as a case study as Ethiopian scenario portrays lack of literature on this front. The researcher aims to contribute this to the emerging literature.
David AckahOfori IssahAmponsah Richard

https://www.ajol.info/index.php/pmsj/article/view/287770

Construction projects were massively disrupted by the Covid 19 pandemic. The pandemic significantly affected how construction activities are carried out on site. This study investigated in depth the challenges construction teams faced while managing the projects amidst the COVID 19 pandemic. The study collected data using a google form questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed to 52 respondents in total who were actively involved in the management of the construction projects. The collected data was analysed using SPSS software version 26. Findings indicate that the COVID 19 pandemic caused disruption in the management of projects. The construction sites were abandoned by foreign skilled labours and left unskilled local workers on site. Results indicate that it was impossible to work on site because of the imposed restriction measures. Work was done online but proved to be a challenge since one needs to be on site to make decisions about activities. People lost jobs, lives and the local economy was disrupted. Supply chain of construction materials was disrupted because ports and boarders were closed. The study recommends that projects must procure materials in advance, develop a policy of training local labours to transfer skills, encourage local manufacturing and workers to be vaccinated.
Geofrey Joseph Mfuni
