Labial adhesion in post-pubertal girls: case report
Abstract
Labial adhesions after puberty are rare and are usually the result of chronic inflammation, urinary tract infection, hypoestrogenism or surgical procedures leading to vulval trauma. Sexual abuse leading to labial adhesions is extremely rare in post-menarchal women. Complete vulval fusion rarely occurs without any evidence of hypoestrogenism. We address this rare entity in three young post - pubertal girls - one had a history of genital trauma, the second had history of surgical intervention due to urinary retention and the last one had a history of sexual abuse. All the patients had in common was a history of genital trauma. Accepted management of this condition is adhesiolysis followed by the application of estrogen cream in the post-operative period.
