Analysis of Factors Associated with Early Marriage and Impact on Childbirth Complications in the Tulungagung Regency, Indonesia
Abstract
Background: The factors that underlie the occurrence of early marriage are from the community, family and individual. Childbird complication are the biological consequence that many women due to their immature reproductive health.
Purpose of the study: To analyze the factors associated with early marriage and impact on childbirth complications in the Tulungagung regency.
Subjects and Methods: This research is a case control study that wil be undertaken in the Tulungagung Regency area in May 2023. The sample size was 288 women who were married between 2019 and 2021, with 96 women who married early and 192 women who were not married early, using purposive sampling and data collection using a questionnaires.
Outcomes: Low education (OR= 11,541;95%CI=5,782 to 23,036;p= 0,000), low economic status (OR=3,178; 95%CI= 1,906 to – 5,299), negative parental role (OR= 4,648; 95%CI= 2,742 – 7,880 ;p= 0,000), never exposed to information on early marriage (OR= 3,940; 95%CI= 2,289 to 6,782;p= 0,000), the influences of community culture (OR= 0.000; 95%CI= 3,058 to 15,898;p= 0,000), childbirth complications occurred (OR=1.571;95%CI= 0.922 to 2.678;p= 0.095. The results of multiple logistic regression, education is the most dominant factor affecting of early marriage (OR= 11.665; CI 95% = 5.410 to 25.153).
Conclusion: Early marriage are increasing in the Tulungagung Regency area, influenced by low education, low economic status, negative role of parents, many never get information about early marriage and the influence of community culture, but the most influential among these factors is education, childbirth complications that occur in the region are not related to early marriage.
