Abstract

Y is a 26 year old male; Nigerian medical student who presented with a case IV localized gingival recession of the right mandibular central and lateral incisors. Miller's class II gingival recession on the lower left central and Miller's class III gingival recession on the lower left lateral incisor. The Miller's class IV localized gingival recession of the right mandibular central and lateral incisors was associated with a long-standing history of self-induced gingival traumatism. This he did by picking and cutting off tiny bits. Frenal pull was also an aetiological factor.

Routine prophylaxis and root planning produced a resolution of the itchy gingivae which patient claimed was responsible for his traumatizing his gingivae using his finger. Frenectomy was later carried out, which healed with minimal scarring. Further progression of recession was halted and a simple gingival prosthesis made from a mixture of pink and clear acrylic in a 30:70 ratio.
