The Practice of Multifetal Pregnancy Reduction

Abstract

The great success achieved in the field of infertility over the years, has resulted in an increase in high order multiple pregnancy. Pregnancy complication is directly proportional to the number of fetuses in each pregnancy. Furthermore, pregnancy outcome is dependent on the gestational age at the time of birth. Multifetal pregnancy reduction is a procedure that reduces the fetuses to a smaller number, thus improving the chance of survival of the remaining fetus(es). The procedure is preceded by comprehensive counseling.
