In Utero Cord Ligation-Strangulation of Fetus and Abruptio Placentae - A Rare Coincidence
Abstract
This is a case report of a 34-year old multipara, who was admitted into the labour ward of the University of Port-Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) with concealed abruptio placentae and intrauterine fetal death at a gestational age of 37 weeks. She delivered a female fresh stillbirth weighing 2850g with a ligation-strangulation loop of umbilical cord round the neck twice.
This case highlights the possibility of abruptio placentae by in-utero ligation-strangulation of the fetus.
