The Immune Response to Polio Virus After Natural Infection and Immunization with Oral Polio Vaccine: A Panoramic View of the Issues and Problems

Abstract

Poliomyelitis has been ravaging many developing countries especially those in sub-Sahara Africa. The cumulated number of children with wild poliovirus recorded has been increasing astronomically especially in Africa continent and particularly in Nigeria. This article reviews the immunophysiology of infection; and immunological response in serum and secretions following natural infection or immunization with oral polio vaccine.
