Response of Amaranth (Amaranthus hybridus) to Different Rates and Times of Urea Fertilizer Application
Abstract
The response of Amaranth (Amaranthus hybridus) to different rates and times of nitrogen (N) application was studied at Teaching and Research Farm,University of Ado-Ekiti in the late seasons of 2003 and 2004. The N was applied at 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg/ ha as urea (46%N) at 1, 2 and 3 weeks after sowing.Growth parameters and total yield were significantly influenced (P<0.05) by N rates and times of application. Plant height, stem girth, leaf number, leaf area and total yield increased with N level. The 50kg N/ha gave the highest values. Application of N at 3 weeks after sowing gave the highest values of growth parameters and yield.
