Comparison of three Land Evaluation Systems in Evaluating the Predictive Value of Some Selected Soils in Ado-Ekiti, Southwest Nigeria.
Abstract
Three land evaluation system.(Land Capability Classification, Fertility Capability Classification and Land Suitability Classification) were compared for their practical relevance in terms of the accuracy of their predictive value on seven major soil types in the humid forest zone of south western Nigeria. The result showed that the systems evaluated the soil differently. Only the comparison between LSC and FCC was significant (r=0.52: P<0.05), while the others did not correlate at all. There is the need for a critical study of the relevance of land qualities and characteristics and their range of values as presently being used in Nigeria.
