Peer review
The Nsukka Journal of Religion and Cultural Studies (NJRCS) considers peer review process as a very important aspect that ensures the quality and integrity of published research.
Our peer review process is outlined below:
Length of Peer Review
Within two months of the submission of a manuscript, the Editor-in-chief is expected to notify the corresponding author of the outcome of the review. In some cases, however, the peer review process may take up to three months or more depending on the number of submissions received.
Responsibilities of NJRCS Editorial Board Members
The Nsukka Journal of Religion and Cultural Studies (NJRCS) Editorial Board Members are entrusted with the responsibilities of selecting competent reviewers and making fair decisions on based on the report of the reviewers. Editorial Board members can also be requested to serve as reviewers when necessary.
Responsibilities of NJRCS Reviewers
Reviewers should ensure that they provide constructive and objective feedback without any bias or conflict of interest. The feedback should provide information that will help the author in improving the quality of the manuscript. Each manuscript submitted to NJRCS is evaluated by at least two anonymous reviewers using double-blind peer review process to ascertain its contribution to knowledge and its relevance to the journal’s scope. Any reviewer who, at any point feels unqualified or due not have time to review assigned manuscript should notify the Editor-in-Chief as soon as possible.
Criteria for accepting and rejecting articles for NJRCS
NJRCS operates on double blind peer review process in which every reviewer is asked to fill a peer
review form. This is a four-section review form with the following sections and sub-headings:
Section A: Introductory Issues
- Is the title of the article academic and suitable for the journal?
- Does the article have an aim/objective?
- Does the article have an identifiable statement of problem?
Section B: Methodological Issues
- Does the article have a methodology?
- Is the methodology suitable for the article?
- Is the methodology clear and well applied in the article?
Section C: Language and Referencing
- Is the language of the article academic?
- Does author use British English?
- Are there grammatically issues in the articles like spelling mistakes?
- Did the author use APA 5 th edition?
- Is the literature used contemporary, and located within the argument of the article?
Section D: General Appraisal
- Is the conclusion of the article based on its argument?
- How well can the article be located within scholarly discussion (s) on its topic?
- Does the article contribute to knowledge? Does it solve any societal problem?
In addition to this, NJRCS rejects articles they are found out to have been plagiarised or if authors of articles fail to utilise corrections given to them.
Publication Scheduling
This journal publishes two volumes and 2 issues per year.
