En-bloc excision debridement of spray paint injection injury to the hand: case report and review of literature
Abstract
Background: High pressure injection injuries to the hand are relatively uncommon. The potential and actual tissue injuries are often underestimated by the primary care giver.
Patient: This is a report on a 27 year old dock worker who sustained a spray paint gun injury to the left hand with resulting digital neurovascular compromise. Results: Radical excision debridement of all involved tissue and paint was able to salvage the digits.
Conclusion: The need for aggressive intervention to minimize tissue damage and hasten rehabilitation is emphasized in the review of literature.
Keywords: spray gun injury, neurovascular compromise, en-bloc excision debridement.
